SEE & DO

THE BEST BEACHES AND RIVERS

ACTIVITIES TO EXPLORE

IN AND AROUND KENTON-ON-SEA

The surrounding countryside boasts valley bushveld unique to the Eastern Cape and is able to support more animal’s birds and insects per cubic meter than any other biome on earth! There are dozens of malaria free game reserves to choose from including the awesome Greater Addo Elephant National Park. Which stretches to the edge of Kenton-on-Sea.

From Nanaga in the West, Route 72 winds through dairy chicory and pineapple farms, past spectacular dune fields at Woody Cape and ancient coastal forests at Alexandria to the pristine tidal rivers and magnificent unspoilt beaches of the Sunshine Coast. Explore the quiet holiday hamlets and sweeping sandy beaches of Kasouga, Cannon Rocks and Boknes. The Boknes lagoon offers safe bathing for children and is a breeding ground for many bird species. The beach is very popular with anglers and kite surfers. From here, walk 4km along deserted beaches in the footsteps of the early explorers to Kwaaihoek where Bartholomew Diaz erected a cross in 1488.

Bushmans River Mouth is a quaint little holiday village with narrow streets and shady milkwoods and lies across the river from Kenton-on-Sea. Kenton is bordered on two sides by the Kariega and Bushmans Rivers with a spectacular stretch of coastline and nature reserve in between. A walk along the beach between the two rivers is an absolute must. Old and young alike will delight in exploring the caves, hidden rock pools, chimneys and sheltered bays created by the unusual rock formations. The rivers are stunningly beautiful. The Bushmans is navigable for 32km and the Kariega for 16km. Game reserves flank both rivers. Paddle or cruise slowly, water-ski or drift with the tide and take in the splendor of the abundant wildlife.

Other outdoor activities in and around Kenton include deep sea fishing, quad biking, horse riding, mountain biking, surfing, hiking, bird watching, game viewing and 4×4 trails. Adventure lovers can indulge in kite surfing, power kiting, dune boarding as well as scuba diving at nearby Port Alfred. Ask a local for directions to the unofficial Poor Man’s Game Drive, free game viewing from your vehicle as you pass Big Five game reserves on either side of the road. The Sunshine Coast also offers tennis, squash, bowls, a 9-hole golf course at Alexandria and 18-hole golf courses at Port Alfred and the Fish River.

With its exceptional beauty and unique situation our area combines all the right ingredients to create and unforgettable holiday, we invite you to soak up the sunshine, relax, explore and have a wonderful stay.
